About the authors
I trained as a physician in London after Peace Corps teaching (VSO) in the jungles of Sarawak, Borneo.I intended to become a surgeon but was side-tracked into anatomy after writing "Clinical Anatomy of Practical Procedures". This led to a British Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Iowa in 1976. I was Clinical Anatomist at UCL(London)for 15 years and then held the same post at The University of Cambridge before moving to Warwick in 2007. I am a Life Fellow of Girton College,Cambridge and also do 2 days a week in "real metropolitan inner-city medicine" as as an NHS GP.I worked as an anatomical consultant for WHO in Alexandria, and have examined and lectured doctors and surgeons worldwide.Since 1993 I've been Professor at SGU,Grenada where I'm known for my passions of Scuba ,jungle hiking and lecturing on the history of art. Also since 2005 I have been Extraordinary Professor at Pretoria University where one of my co-authors works. In 1997 I was awarded the BMA electronic publishing prize and the IAMS prize for the "Interactive Skeleton CD-ROM". In 2005 with Craven & Lumley we won "The Richard Asher Prize" of the Royal Society of Medicine,London for the best new medical text book .My major educational contributions include the McMinn "Clinical Atlas of Human Anatomy" now in its 6th edition and with Prof.Jamie Weir "Imaging Atlas of Human Anatomy" in its 4th edition. In 2006 the American Assoc. of Clinical Anatomists recognized my contributions as its "Honoured Member" - for authorship of anatomical textbooks and electronic resources in many languages" In 2007 I moved to Warwick post-graduate medical school where I was awarded the top teaching award (WATE - award)in my first year.I received an educational grant of 2.0 million dollars from government with which I have recently set up the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre which is a cadaver operative suite and plastinate teaching centre for international health professionals.Awarded nthe FHEA and national teaching fellowship 2011 and in 2012 was anatomical adviser to "Leonardo-anatomist" an exhibition at Buckingham palace where I lectured. Since 2016 I have been visiting Prof at LKC NTU Md School Singapore setting up new anatomy dept and involved with work on Michelangelo ( see Michelangelo "Sculptor in Bronze " book and since Covid working as consultant to Brunel university medical school , UK due to open in 2021.

- Reviewed in Australia on 6 April 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe online edition access promised on the book front and inside cover doesn’t exist. I contacted the publisher and sent them photos and all the info they requested for my new book purchase and nothing. So it’s a scam. I don’t recommend this book or publisher at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most practical atlas ,easy to understand and visually pleasing
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book has never stoped surprising me,used it 27 years ago,now bought it for my daughter. The realistic pictures are perfect and something which most medical students will see in reality in there anatomy cathedrals as bodies are mostly preserved in formaldehyde and muscles, vessels, nerves would be same as depicted in this atlas. A truly unique atlas if you don’t get a chance to dissect a body yourself . Mostly now in medical schools you are given a dissected body revealing all the important structures and relations, demonstrated by your Anatomy lecturer/demonstrator. The unique thing now in this edition compared to 27 years ago is that it gives you an early taste of radiology and how to identify different body parts from X-rays. It does not have enough MRI or CT images ,but that would have defeated the original scope of this book as it is truly meant for medical students. A must have for any medical student. More than enough anatomy one needs to know initially.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for first year medical students!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAbsolutely love this wonderful book with great illustrations and solid photographs of anatomy. What I love most about it, though, is that it contains many figures that show the anatomy within an actual corpse - necessary sometimes for our anatomical understanding in the medical field. Everything is clearly labeled, beautifully done and the book is high quality. I just bought this to upgrade my current edition, but you don't have to buy new at all - one of the things that never changes is the anatomy of the human body, and this will definitely help you when studying for those practical exams!
