Shane Stadler is an experimental physicist and university professor. He spent his early career at the US Naval Research Laboratory and other government labs. He has written five novels, including the four-book, sci-fi Exoskeleton series, and is the coauthor of a well-known college physics textbook. He has published over 250 scientific articles on topics that range from magnetic cooling to spintronics to superconductivity.
The Exoskeleton series can best be described as "speculative" in the sense that they are not constrained to a specific genre. They are rather a fusion of science fiction, psycho-horror, and supernatural thriller. His most recent novel, The Peregrine Conjecture (2023), is a blend of sci-fi and spy-thriller, with modern themes reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984 and Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
Second editions of Stadler's first two books, Exoskeleton (2012) and its sequel,Tympanum (2015), were published in 2024. The second editions are only altered for format.
