Product description

Review

Reeves’ (and his colleagues) text is one of the most comprehensive textbooks that introduces counselling and psychotherapy to students. It has a very broad scope, offers an in-depth perspective and yet remains student and reader-friendly.

-- Ladislav Timulak

Andrew’s wealth of experience shines through in this comprehensive account of what it entails to be a counsellor or psychotherapist. No stone is left unturned as he accurately identifies salient issues in training, routine practice and professional mastery. Highly recommended for both practitioners and potential clients.
-- Emeritus Professor Sue Wheeler

Reeves and his chapters’ co-authors have done us a great service here. Written with clarity and authority, his updated Introduction offers both practical and theoretical insights across the broad and complex territories of the current counselling and psychotherapy world. The book’s sheer scope is impressive, but equally so is his personal presence in the text. The reader never loses the sense of who is talking to them: someone steeped in, and deeply committed to, the therapeutic enterprise.

-- Jonathan Wyatt

Jammed with useful and easy to read information, this is a great book for trainee counsellors who are looking to expand their theoretical knowledge through practical and fun means.

-- Lauren Walker

Easy reading, this book is easier to understand than any other

-- Philippa Bullock

I think this new edition would be a vital resource for all current and future trainees of the counselling profession. I will be using this new edition especially for the video materials

-- Frances Head

A comprehensive and thought-provoking introduction to what counselling is and how it is practised; ideal for all therapists-in-training, qualified practitioners of all modes and other professionals performing a counselling role.

-- Angela Russell

This book is less of an ′introduction to counselling′ and more of an ′all you need to know′. Some discussion around the nature of research and evidence, the current mental health discourse, and contemporary developments and issues in the field provide an essential backdrop to this accessible and interactive resource. This book would be a great resource not just for trainees and those starting out in their career but for trainers and lecturers too, and a useful tool for supervisors. It is thought-provoking, inspiring and encourages reflexivity and critical thinking. -- Michelle Higgins, MBACP (Accred)

This book is very practical. It will give you a good snapshot of what counselling is and how to go about being a counsellor. Only weakness is the therapeudic theory isnt specific enough.

Awesome book! As a student I find this book excellent. So much info to take and explained in a great easy to understand way. It's like a great introduction book but also explains things quite deeply too. I'm super chuffed with it. Probably my new favourite counselling book along with Counselling Skills and Studies book which is commissioned by BACP.
