I thought this was a great purchase for the $. Really helped with a class I was taking to have the hardcover book along with the course (I guess I'm old school). But makes for a nice quick reference when needed as well. I think the seller listed it as good condition, but it was in perfect condition! Nice job seller!

The Essentials of Computer Organization and Architecture, Fourth Edition was recently awarded a " Textbook Excellence Award" ("Texty") from the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) the only association devoted solely to serving textbook and academic authors since 987 (www.TAAonline.net). The " Textbook Excellence Award" recognizes works for their excellence in the areas of content, presentation, appeal, and teachability. This is the third Texty award for Null and Lobur. They also won for their Second and Third Editions of this text.Updated and revised to reflect the most current data in the field, perennial bestseller The Essentials of Computer Organization and Architecture, Fourth Edition is comprehensive enough to address all necessary organization and architecture topics, but concise enough to be appropriate for a single-term course. All-new exercises, expanded discussions, and feature boxes in every chapter implement even more real-world applications and current data, and many chapters include all-new examples. A full suite of student and instructor resources, including a secure companion website, Lecture Outlines in PowerPoint Format, and an Instructor Manual, complement the text. This award-winning, best-selling text is the most thorough, student-friendly, and accessible text on the market today.Key Features:•The Fourth Edition is in direct correlation with the ACM/IEEE CS2 3 guidelines for computer organization and architecture, in addition to integrating material from additional knowledge units. •All-new material on a variety of topics, including zetabytes and yottabytes, automatons, tablet computers, graphic processing units, and cloud computing•The MARIE Simulator package allows students to learn the essential concepts of computer organization and architecture, including assembly language, without getting caught up in unnecessary and confusing details.•Full suite of ancillary materials, including a secure companion website, PowerPoint lecture outlines, and an Instructor Manual•Bundled with an optional Intel supplement•Ideally suited for single-term courses

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE book, run - do not walk - away
Verified PurchaseHORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE book, run - do not walk - away from this book AND any university, college, institution, or person that uses it or recommends it!
Dense, unintelligible, indecipherable. The text and examples offer precious little context, flow, or continuity and 1/100 of the print space should have been used. Instead, page after page of text and examples are crammed with every conceivable factoid, tidbit, acronym, cute aside, and other non-related tripe for a nauseating worthless 880 pages.
With abrupt insertions of acronyms, side bars, unrelated facts, random ideas, and the ever present and shameful, ill-conceived, and convoluted analogies - "a cluttered desk" for caching, "spoiled child at deli" for network protocols, "human languages and a foreign pen pal" for RISC architecture - it was a nightmare to try to use as an introduction textbook and surely never could be used as a reference. Every page is just words, acronyms, and random text thrown onto a page in a dizzying and shameful demonstration of how NOT to write a textbook.
There is a deep rooted systemic problem with this textbook and it should have never seen the light of day, much less a fourth edition. Shame, shame, shame on the publisher and the editor - if there indeed was one. This entire textbook, each and every chapter's text and examples read like just a bunch of words strung together, no continuity, no flow, no cohesiveness, and no context.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall nice book.
Verified PurchaseThere are errors in the text. But the book has a lot of good information about the inner workings of computers and is a great introduction into the computer field.
