She writes several anatomy & physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and pathophysiology books, ranging from 1st to 12th editions. Dr. Judi aims to help students and the general population understand the science around us and about us in ways that are captivating. A self-described humanist, her classrooms are welcoming while her outreach messages are inviting. I received my Ph.D. from Cornell University in comparative and functional anatomy for work on the pathophysiology of stress. In addition to professional publications that include journal articles and contributed chapters, technical reports, and magazine articles, I am the lead author of ten undergraduate textbooks, two Atlases, and five clinical manuals in the fields of anatomy and physiology or anatomy. I have also published a book for amateur naturalists and my most recent effort is a nonfiction work based on declassified WWII and post-war documents held in the archives of the US and other countries.
I am currently affiliated with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, after retiring from teaching at the Maui campus. I have a long-standing bond with the Shoals Marine Laboratory, a joint venture between Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire.
I have been active in the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) for over 24 years and was a member of the committee that established the course curriculum guidelines for undergraduate anatomy and physiology. I am a President Emeritus of HAPS after serving as President-Elect, President, and Past-President over 2005–2007 and also belong to the American Physiological Society, the American Association of Anatomists, the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology, the Australia/New Zealand Association of Clinical Anatomists, the Hawaii Academy of Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the International Society of Vertebrate Morphologists. I have been a member of the Authors Guild since 1994 and a member of the Textbook Authors Association since 1990.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book -- almost all graphs and photos and charts
Verified PurchaseGreat book for learning college A&P. You don't have to read as much but you learn a LOT. I used this book more than my prof lectures to pull a B in the class.

Verified PurchaseI received this book yesterday and its a good book and well organized. The pages are loose leaf with holes punched in it already. I put the pages in a three ring binder. I like the fact that I can take the pages out an study one page at a time if I choose to. The price of this book was great. At my college this book was 221.00 and I couldn't foot that bill. I look on amazon and found it for 120.99 which was a great deal. It did not come with the access code but you can purchase the access code seperately from the books site. I didn't need the access code so this was a real deal. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I was also delivered in a timely matter so I didn't miss any days of class.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK
Verified PurchaseI am very happy with Amazon.com because they had what I wanted. This is my first time ordering books from Amazon.com. The book arrived in perfect conditions as if you would have bought it at your local bookstore. It arrived on time. I will be purchasing more often from this website. This is a very detailed book with illustrations that anyone can understand. The only problem I had, was that the book did not come with a student access code. In other words, you have to purchase an access code separately from the book's website.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Text is Absolutely Amazing!!!
Verified PurchaseI noticed that my A&P II professor's method of instructing had changed somewhat about half way through the semester so I stopped by her office one day to visit and see what she was doing different. The change in her lecturing technique had had a noticeable positive impact on learning with the entire class. She showed me, "visual anatomy & physiology" and explained to me she had received this book in the mail as a "freebie". Being that "visual anatomy & physiology" was not an approved text for instruction by the institution, she had been using it as a supplement in lecture class when covering certain aspects of the physiology of the human body. I was personally amazed at how much easier this text made learning the intricacies of the human body, especially when compared with the approved textbook being used.
I decided to purchase, "visual anatomy & physiology", as a supplemental study tool myself and could not have been happier with how easy it became to better understand the human body!!! I only wish I would have known about this book earlier (or have wished it would have been published a bit sooner). I definitely believe this book is a great asset to the learning process. If you are not currently using "visual anatomy & physiology" as an approved text for instruction, I highly recommend that you consider purchasing this book as a supplemental study tool as it can contribute to the learning process and make it that much more enjoyable!!!
