Product description

Review

This textbook fills a gap in the range of books on operations management. It is not only a book suitable for a single course at business schools, but it can also be used at technical universities and the large amount of small and large cases, as well as the extensive suggestions for further reading, makes it possible to go deeper into this very large field. ― Dr Mats Winroth, Chalmers University of Technology and Jönköping University, Sweden

Essential Operations Management tells the story of operations-for both products and services-in an appealing way suitable for introductory operations management classes. The text does a great job of building operational concepts from the ground up: starting with basic ideas, moving through some simple tools for design, planning and scheduling, and leaving the reader with ideas to improve operations. Each chapter is cleverly punctuated with case studies on timely themes that will interest students and promote engaging in-class discussions. ―
Dr Jordan Srour, Lebanese American University, Lebanon

Still the one to beat in terms of exposition, elucidation, analysis and explanation of the essentials of operations management. It's now pedagogically even more useful due to better integration with its companion website. ―
Tuan Yu, University of Kent, UK

2.0 out of 5 stars A book constructed just as badly as its written

This book is very impressive when it first arrives with its design and glossy pages but this very quickly fades when you start to notice pages rip no matter how careful you are, the covers dent and scratch within days and the spine of the book begins to fall apart if with every turn of the page.

The only thing worse than the quality of design is the content of the book which is written in such a way that it is not only vague but also confusing and of our course two hundred people on a 300 person module complained about this book. The only reason I can think of for it being our core text is that our lecturer wrote the book.

It focuses on certain sections mentioning them almost on every page but glances over or ignores others.

All in all I'd recommend an alternative textbook if you're a university student or any other book in the subject area if you're looking to learn about operations management practically.
