AND And' SPSS CD Version 17.0 Paperback – 1 March 2009

3.1 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

This award-winning text, now fully updated with PASW Statistics 17 (formerly SPSS Statistics), is the only book on statistics that you will need! This book comes packaged with an 18 month licence for the "Student Version of SPSS/ PASW Statistics". Fully revised and restructured, this new edition is even more accessible as it now takes students through from introductory to advanced level concepts, all the while grounding knowledge through the use of "SPSS/PASW Statistics". Andy Field's humorous and self-deprecating style and the book's host of characters make the journey entertaining as well as educational. While still providing a very comprehensive collection of statistical methods, tests and procedures, and packed with examples and self-assessment tests to reinforce knowledge, the new edition now also offers: a more gentle introduction to basic-level concepts and methods for beginners; new textbook features to make the book more user-friendly for those learning about more advanced concepts, encouraging 'critical thinking'; and, a brand new, full-colour design, making it easy for students to navigate between topics, and to understand how to use the latest version of "SPSS// PASW Statistics". Both 'real world' (the bizarre and the wonderful) and invented examples illustrate the concepts and make the techniques come alive for students - an additional chapter on multilevel modelling for advanced-level students - reinforced binding to make the book easier to handle at a computer workstation. The book also includes access to a brand new and improved companion Website, bursting with features including: animated 'SPSS walk-through' videos clearly demonstrating how to use the latest "SPSS/PASW Statistics" modules; self-marking multiple choice questions; data sets for psychology, business and management and health sciences; a flash-card glossary for testing knowledge of key concepts; and access to support material from SAGE study skills books. Statistics lecturers are also provided with a whole range of resources and teaching aids, including: the test bank, over 300 multiple-choice questions ready to upload to WebCT, Blackboard or other virtual learning environments, charts and diagrams in electronic format for inclusion in lecture slides, and PowerPoint slides written by the author to accompany chapters of the text.

I have to say, this book is terrible! Pray to the lord that if this is the required book for you class, that your teacher will actually teach, rather then expect you to teach yourself from this awful book. Its from the UK, and is fine and dandy if you are from there, I am in the US and it is not helpful at all. He is all over the place, and you end up worse off then before you read his jumbled explanations.

Save yourself the money and just look up his companion website and watch the videos.

    WORST STATS BOOK EVER!

I'm very disappointed that the actual disk had been removed from the book, this was not indicated in the description as you can see from the advert heading. "BUNDLE: Field, Discovering Statistics Using SPSS, 3e 'and' SPSS CD Version 17.0 (Discovering Statistics Using S"

I've never quite grasped statistics. Throughout my undergraduate studies I didn't get it, and then during my postgraduate studies I felt left behind. I am now studying a for a PhD, and in my final year of study, after having Andy fields book suggested to me on countless occasions I have finally taken a step forward and bought is his book. It's literally been a god send! I am strapped for cash, but this book has been the most important investment in my learning aside from my tuition fees. Every bit as readable as i have been told. It is my new stats breakdown and recovery service...

Andy Field explains statistical concepts in a way that are fun and easy to understand. It can be very difficult to make an often dreaded topic interesting and comical, but this book does just that. Andy Field has accomplished the impossible. This book is a must have for anyone taking statistics, anyone interested in learning more about research, and especially learning how statistical concepts and studies can be evaluated using the program IBM SPSS. No other book compares. I am a Ph.D. student so I know a lot about the books and resources available within this subject, as I have purchased them and utilized them for my courses. You will not regret purchasing this book. It is invaluable!
