5.0 out of 5 stars Don't know why it's getting a bad rap

The problems from this book scale in difficulty very well, they don't baby you at all - which some people I guess don't like, but the higher number problems (30's and up) often present very interesting, novel problems which simulate often what kind of questions you might get on a test. Honestly this book has helped me very much.

I cannot stress more how much the exercises have helped; for straight learning out of the book, maybe this isn't the best choice, get your teacher/professor to do that. And GET THE SOLUTION MANUAL it will save your life.

This book's exercises make it a great learning tool. Buy it for that reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calculus I, II, and III all in one place

I purchased this hardbound book used to replace the softbound two books I used in college. I wanted a hardbound version containing Calc I, II, and III all in once place. This book fits the bill and worked out great for me during the college years and will be an excellent reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Math Book
Reviewed in the United States on 11 November 2008
    Format: HardcoverVerified Purchase
This is a typical math book in that it uses a LOT of words that only math teachers and majors use on a regular basis, but it's still quite readable. The way Howard Anton puts some of the Calculus formulae are totally undreadable if you don't have a strong math-brain, because he uses far too many variables and symbols without sufficient explaination. Other than that, my only other complaint is that, like most math books, the answers in the back of this book are so condensed that you need an entire new book to learn the methods of condensing answers in order to even read them.
