The worst unit I have ever done at uni, and unfortunately it was a core one! From day one, the Geelong Unit Chair was unorganised and resented being contacted by students for help. The mid-trimester test was full of multiple choice questions, each worth between 2-6 marks and no way to show working. For at least two of the questions (one worth 6 marks), the correct answer was not even listed amongst the multiple choice options. Most people failed. The final assessment task was a group project creating a 'predominantly visual' poster summarising a relevant journal article. Not only is it extremely difficult to do this, I don't believe it properly reflected the cohort's knowledge of the unit content. Again, lots of people were marked low. The exam was thankfully manageable, after a impromptu change in unit chair. This year in genetics, it seemed like the Unit Chair wanted us to fail. It was a fight for every mark. An absolute nightmare of a unit. - Bree L, Biomedical Science, Deakin University, Waurn Ponds Campus.

Learning DNA in the gene level was exciting. Loved the subject.
