NHL Hockey Arbitration Competition Info Session
24 February, 2016
Bond University Faculty of Law
BU Canadian Law Students' Association CLSA
To all hockey fans & to all of you wanting to refine your legal skills, come out this Wednesday (week 6) to get information on the CLSA's 2nd annual NHL Hockey Arbitration Competition!
This Canadian competition has quickly become a favourite amongst the Faculty of Law. We run this competition based on the University of Toronto Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada.
Ice-hockey is such a large source of passion amongst Canadians, many of our Canadian ice-hockey fans will not miss this chance to participate! But let's not forget our Aussie friends who have participated fearlessly and with great success in the past!
This competition involves the arbitration of a NHL hockey player's salary, where one team represents the player and the other represents the club in front of an arbitrator. The judges are all Bond Faculty of Law professors. The goal is to negotiate a salary that both parties to the arbitration will be happy with. Parties to the proceeding are assessed in their usage of comparable NHL player statistics and salaries to further their stance and in how they respond to such arguments.
This competition is a unique event where aspiring lawyers and sports fans have the opportunity to advance their written and oral advocacy skills in the specialized context of arbitration proceedings. All Bond law students are welcome to participate and no specialized knowledge of ice-hockey is required. The CLSA welcomes all to our token Canadian competition!
