OK course. The content is super fascinating and lectures were engaging. However, the convenor does not respond to emails; and grades were not handed back in a reasonable time frame. Students had to wait up to two and a half months to receive some assignment grades and made it very stressful. All the lecturers were fantastic and did an excellent job, but unfortunately the convenor made it really difficult for us despite being a great lecturer. 90% of the problems would be fixed if they just got a new convenor - preferably one who made sure grades and good quality feedback were handed back on time.

The convenor refuses to delegate, and as such, you run into a lot of problems. His lectures were fantastic, but that's where the good stuff about this course ends. As a lecturer and general teacher, he is one of the best I've seen in my entire studying career, but as a convenor, he makes it a nightmare. He consistently ignores emails, refuses to let students review their exams, and is not approachable. For the record, I am a consistent HD student, and not typically afraid to talk to convenors. This one is different, however. The workload for this course was the highest I had out of the 8 courses I've taken so far at ANU. Marks were handed back a lot later than any other course's marks, and feedback given was extremely lacking. During labs, I heard demonstrators raise the same complaints as me. In regards to modules, the Evolution module is a bit flakey, and the lecturer (different to the convenor) urged students to "reconsider their faith" if they "believe in a god". However, aside from the validity of Evolution as a whole, this lecturer was fine, approachable and friendly. The lecturers for the other two modules were also friendly and approachable.

This course was awesome, and the second easiest I have done. They split up the modules into parts that make it easy to only have to fully learn half the material to pass the final exam. In saying this, this subject is no walk in the park. It's a challenge. But the course coordinator is funny and makes the lectures interesting, and the last module is fantastic. The course coordinator does everything he can to help you pass provided you put in the effort.
